According to a recent study of the Association Villes de France *, the annual average of investments linked to videoprotection would amount to 290 000 euros and would represent 75% of capital expenditure devoted to security and crime prevention. 81% of cities now have a videoprotection facility (73% in 2015, 55% in 2010) and 38% of cities intend to equip themselves.
With an average of 51.7 cameras installed on public roads, video surveillance is used to protect people and property rather than to verbalize traffic or parking offenses. It remains a means of preventing security breaches in particularly vulnerable places and of helping to resolve crimes and offenses (registration role for judicial purposes). Some cities use nomad cameras in places exposed to degradation or trafficking.
On average, 6.5 operator agents are in charge of video protection. Finally, equipped cities have 66% of the time with an immediate system of switching images to the National Police.
